I think the issue is that the original scanning software from Brother is not compatible with Windows 7 as stated in the original post and I suspect that Windows Fax and Scan is therefore being used out vrother necessity. I just installed a new computer with Windows 7 from XP. If that is the case and it may not bethere isn't any Brother supplied scanning software where a setting can be changed and Windows Fax and Scan doesn't have any option to output in pdf format.
